A scarce certificate with the reasons for the award of the Bronze Bravery Medal of the Poglavnik was awarded to a German Infantry Unteroffizier who served with a Croatian Infantry Regiment against Partisans in Yugoslavia. Recommendation for the Award of the Bronze Bravery Medal of the Poglavnik: Name: Hermann Haag Rank and Unit: Unteroffizier, 14th(Anti-Tank) Company, 383rd(Croatian) Infantry Regiment. Precise Citation: When, Where and How? ÔUnteroffizier Haag has particularly distinguished himself on 7.12.1943 as the commander of the Machine Gun vehicle (motorised) through reckless personal action. As the vehicle lay under heavy fire, he returned fire until the vehicle was under cover. There he worked his way forward and silenced the enemy Machine Gun through well directed fire. Decoration: The Bronze Bravery Medal of the Poglavnik Date of Award: 4.2.1944 Signature of the Commander: Aldrian, Generalleutnant and Commander, 373rd(Croatian) Infantry Division. Aldian was awarded the German Cross in Gold on 14.3.1943 as Generalmajor and Senior Artillery Commander 308. The 373rdInfantry Division was involved in fighting in the area of Banja Luka in Bosnia Herzegovina against Yugoslav Partisans in fighting which could be particularly vicious. Sadly there is no record of HaagÕs other units or service during WW2, nor is it clear whether or not he survived the war.
