- Lot Description
Plate 59 from The Bible. From the edition of 250, unsigned (as issued, the book edition was only signed on the justification page and not initialed on each print), printed by Haasen, Paris. It was commissioned by Ambroise Vollard in 1931 and completed for Teriade in 1956, with full margins. Samson Having Lingered in the House Of a courtesan of Gaza, is spied upon by the inhabitants, who seek to kill him. He takes up the Gates of the City, charges them on his back, and deposits them on the summit of a mountain. Catalogue Raisonne: Cramer 30. Frame Measurements H 21" W 16"
