Mattie Lietz (1893-1956)
Street in Rockport
Second quarter of the 20th Century.
The oil on artist's board is signed by the Mattie Lietz lower left front and found with artist supply label for Tonsberg / Hatfield's Color Shop Boston, Cambridge, Rockport and E. Gloucester verso.
Early 20th century female artist Mattie Lietz is most associated with Illinois, but lived and painted in various locales around the country. She studied and exhibited at the Chicago Institute and at Butler College in Irvington, Indiana. She herself taught at various Schools and summer programs in Illinois including the Grand Detour Artist Colony where she both taught, and studied under the colony's leading figure at the time, John Nolf who is also represented in this auction. She painted in Rockport and Gloucester, Massachusetts and exhibited with the National Academy of Design in New York.
Board measures 16 x 20 with a framed size of 19.75 x 23.75 inches.
Provenance: Two generation private collection Dixon, Illinois.

We happily provide seamless, low-cost in-house shipping on nearly everything we sell. Handling and materials fees range $12 to $16.50 per box shipment for most items, depending on size, weight and or fragility. Items requiring construction of a crate will be charged at $17.50 per hour for labor plus the cost of materials. Items designated as over-sized by commercial carriers and those weighing more than 100 pounds may be best shipped by 'blanket wrap' carriers. We can provide rough shipping estimates for any lot at request.
