This lot marks only the third appearance of artist Jerry McKeehan's most mature and developed works at auction.
The monumental work on canvas, fresh from the artist's estate, is composed of thousands of singular, confident, sculptural impasto applications creating the perspective of a distant horizon above a flatland landscape disrupted by bursts of cascading color spilling into a deep foreground canyon with flat walls. The result treats the eye to an exuberant, abstracted perspective of planes above and below the earth's surface in prismatic shafts and bursts of jewel-tone color.
The work is displayed in a three-color frame made by the artist.
This work is signed within the image front side and titled verso.

Jerry McKeehan received his B.A. with honors from Colorado State University in 1962. Shortly thereafter, Hallmark Cards in Kansas City recruited him as a designer, during which time he studied at the Kansas City Art Institute. He also received a grant from Hallmark to study with watercolorist John Pike in New York.
In 1966, Jerry left Hallmark to devote all his energies to painting and his work at the University of Missouri at Kansas City, and the Kansas City Art Institute. He also served as artist-in-residence for the Missouri Council of the Art.
