19th Century 4 Piece Day Dress c1870. The lot includes a matching 19th century c1870 three piece set featuring a bodice, jacket, skirt, and crinoline. The set is made of a white and brown silk peppered in paired squares motifs. The bodice features a high neck, long sleeves, and terminates front and back in elongated points. There is also pleated brown silk trim along the cuffs and over the shoulders front to back. It is lined in linen, has 8 stays, and closes with hook and eye closures and buttons. There is lead birdshot in the elongated points, most likely to keep them laying flat. The jacket features similar styling to the bodice with slight differences in shape such as, bell sleeves, a fitted waist with a slight peplum terminating in points both front and back, and a bow at the back.. As well as a high neckline, brown silk trim at the cuffs bottom hem and over the shoulders. It is lined in linen and has 7 brown silk button closures and an internal waistband. The full skirt features tight gathers at the waist with, 1 side pocket, and 1 pocket at the inner waistband. It is made of the same patterned silk with 3 pickups in brown silk. It has a wool braid at the hem, chintz and stiffened cotton hem. It closes at the side with hook and eye closures. The early bustle crinoline features cotton woven bands in white and blue supporting 15 wrapped wire bands with a leg panel and hem made of chintz and a buckle closure at the waist. Laying flat the set measures as follows: Jacket: bust 20'', waist 14.5'', sleeve 17.5''. Bodice: bust 19'', waist 13'', sleeve 16''. Skirt: waist 13.5'', front length 40'', back length 45''. Crinoline 32'' long. The set is in fair condition with overall water stains, toning and spots. The jacket has underarm staining, toning, and small holes. It is missing 3 out of 7 buttons, the bow at the back is coming unsewn. The bodice also has underarm staining, and is missing all of its buttons. The skirt has large water stains, spots, paint spots, wear to the bottom hem, and several seams coming unsewn. The crinoline is in good/fair condition with light toning, and wear to the chintz hem.
