Condition/Comments: 5-1/8” diameter. This very patriotic-themed tray depicts the American ideal: a pair of young lovers or married couple on a leisurely summer stroll or picnic in a lush green park—sipping a bottle of American Perfect Beer of course. Perhaps it was a reassuring message to relay to customers about secure life in America in response to the escalating world war that had just commenced in Europe. The copyright date on the tray is 1914, the year WWI began, and America would not enter the war for three more years. The oversized tray is in excellent condition. The most notable flaw is a 1-inch diagonal scratch across the woman’s neck. Otherwise, there are only a few small nicks and rim wear. A really gorgeous, highly illustrative piece.
Winning bidders will receive an invoice within 3 days of auction close detailing shipping costs and insurance. Bidders may opt to accept the risk of loss or damage in transit and forego insurance by contacting auctioneer.
