Information provided by the Artist: Mark Steven Greenfield, a native Angeleno, received his BA from California State University, Long Beach, and his MFA from Cal State, Los Angeles. He was past director of both the Watts Towers Arts Center and the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery. His work focuses on the complex issues surrounding the African American experience in contemporary society. Through his work, Greenfield explores the psychological dimension of African American stereotypes, little known histories, spiritual practices, reimagined religious iconography, and subconscious mental cartography. He is a recipient of the City of Los Angeles Individual Artist Fellowship, the California Community Foundation Artist Fellowship, and he has been awarded residency fellowships at the Instituto Sacatar in Salvador, Brazil; the McColl Center for Art + Innovation in Charlotte, North Carolina; and Loghaven in Knoxville, Tennessee. His work is in the permanent collections of the California African American Museum and the Crocker Museum.
To pick up your artwork at the Crocker Art Museum, appointments will be available on a first-come, first-served basis for Sunday, June 9 and Monday, June 10.
