Lot of 2. Printed poster, approx. 14 x 16 in., mounted on a decorative holiday 1941 Christmas signage board. Remember Pearl Harbor / Keem "Em Dying.". With racially-drawn Japanese Soldier in cross-hairs of a Rifle Scope with Nazi swastika insignia on his collar depicted at center. Signed in dark brown ink at right, "From Lt. Crouch - Camp Blanding, Fla." Reverse side with vibrant, printed 1941 Christmas signage board, which reads "For the Convenience of our Employees We will be Closed all day Christmas." December 1941.
This poster was probably originally drawn and printed by a soldier, possibly Lt. Crouch, while stationed at Camp Blanding, FL at a climactic period of patriotic fervor after the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, HI. In 1940, Camp Blanding near Jacksonville, FL, was leased to the US Army as an active duty training center. Apparently, 1st Lieutenant Edward O. Crouch, who served in the 313th Infantry, was stationed at Camp Blanding during the period of activation for World War II.
Accompanied by the front page, approx. 17 x 23 in., of the June 6, 1944 D-Day "Extra" Edition printed by The Charleston Gazette, Charleston, WV, with an almost full-page, red-printed headline: "Allies Invade."
A rare, ephemeral World War II post-Pearl Harbor poster representing the revenge and ethnic prejudice of the era.
