- Lot Description
.38WCF, 20" half-octagonal barrel with button magazine, S/N 368174 (mfg. 1890). Blued finish, case hardened receiver walnut stock and forend. Standard two-line Winchester barrel address, caliber mark 38 WCF on left angled barrel flat and 38 CAL on bottom of brass lifter. Rifle has numerous special order features including: case hardened receiver, matted 1/2 octagonal-1/2 round barrel, 1/2 magazine, plain pistol-grip stock with shotgun butt. Adjustable Lyman peep sight on tang is listed in factory letter, but it notes that "no rear seat" is cut for a barrel sight. Now with Buckhorn rear sight. A very scarce 1873 "Short Rifle" with a large number of special order features that are all listed in the accompanying factory letter. This fully rifle may be a "one of a kind" Winchester that is fully documented by its factory letter.
Good to very good. Retains some minute traces of blue and case color in protected areas, the balance a mostly smooth plum-brown patina. Mechanically fine, barrel mostly bright with scattered light pitting and a ring about 1" from the muzzle. Wood with numerous handling marks and dings.Condition
