Winchester Model 1873 First Model Rifle
44-40 caliber, 24.25" octagonal barrel, S/N 823. Set trigger, early style barrel markings; no caliber markings on the cartridge carrier. Rear barrel sight mounted reverse. Early raised rails with raised thumbprint dust cover. Early tang markings. Blued finish. Walnut stock and forearm. Factory letter details: 24" octagonal barrel, single set trigger shipped on May 9, 1874.
Barrel and magazine tube retaining much of the original blue finish blending with a plum patina. Wear to the high edges. Frame retains most of the original blue finish just lightly fading on the top of the frame and upper tang. Wear to the high edges on the frame. Stock and forearm are lightly faded with nice open-grained look. Stock has an old repaired crack. Bore is excellent. Very fine early first model rifle.
