- Lot Description
Winchester 3rd Model 1866 Musket
.44RF caliber, 27" barrel secured by three barrel bands with full-length magazine, S/N 33444 (mfg. ca 1870). Blued finish, brass frame and buttplate, walnut stock and forend. Two-line barrel mark reads: WINCHESTER-REPEATING-ARMS NEW HAVEN, C.T. / KINGS-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29, 1877, OCTOBER 16, 1860 . Spurious LSM (Louisiana State Militia) markings are present on the triggerguard tang, behind the serial number. 900-yard leaf rear sight, front sight/bayonet lug, sling swivels.
Good. Barrel and magazine with traces of blue mixed with a mostly smooth, plum brown patina. Markings remain mostly legible. Mechanically functional, good bore with scattered pitting. Wood with some added finish and scattered bumps, dings and bruises, along with some areas of old red paint that accidentally splashed on the gun.Condition
