American (Newport, Rhode Island), 18th century. A tilt-top candlestand in mahogany, having a single-board, dished top above stepped battens and a vasiform and ring-turned standard, all rising on three outswept legs ending in snake feet, underside of top retaining two old paper labels marked Turner Harlan Called For and ...the prop-erty of Hettie Turner / ...the care of / ...Turner until / called for by her or / her children.; ht. 28, dia. 21.5 x 21.75 in.
Provenance: Descended in the Turner Family of Newport, RICondition
Some light surface wear. Some stains to top. Metal spider a newer addition. A couple of age splits to bottom of standard with some glue reinforcements.
