Mexican, ca. 1940-1944. A William Spratling silver pitcher of bulbous form with flared neck, having three floral decorations applied to the body, and with an applied ribbon handle with ruffle accents, marked with insignia encircled by SPRATLING / MADE IN MEXICO and stamped SPRATLING SILVER on underside; ht. 7.5, wd. 8, dp. 7.25 in.; total silver wt. 31.380ozt (976.03g).
William Spratling (American, 1900-1967) established his shop in 1931 in the Taxco area of Mexico and is best known for his work with the native silversmiths there circa 1940, and for reviving local interest in the art of native silver.Some denting and scratches to rim and on body.Condition
