Wheeler Lewis, Trumbull County, Ohio Tall Case Clock
American (Ohio), early 19th century. A Wheeler Lewis tall case clock in mahogany and mixed woods. The case, possibly from the shop of Lexington, Kentucky cabinetmaker Elijah Warner (active ca 1814-1829), having a hood with a scrolled, broken arch pediment and three urn-shaped finials, and four turned columns, flanking a painted wood dial with Arabic numerals and fruit and flower motifs, all above a waisted case with a shaped skirt, raised on bracket feet, dial signed W. Lewis / Warren.; ht. 94, wd. 18.25, dp. 9.5 in.
Wheeler Lewis (active ca 1825-1835) ran a successful clock making business in Trumbell County, Warren, Ohio. He moved to Warren from Connecticut in ca 1812 with his brothers who were also clockmakers.
