Gillett, James B. SIX YEARS WITH TEXAS RANGERS 1875 - 1881. Austin: Von Boeckmann-Jones Co., (1921). First Edition. 7 1/2 by 5 inches in original green cloth with gilt titling to the upper cover and spine. Long considered one of the classic memoirs by a Texas Ranger. "I regard Gillett as the strongest and straightest of all Ranger narrators. He combined in his nature wild restlessness and loyal gentleness. He wrote in sunlight." (J.Frank Dobie) GRAFF 1553. HOWES 6177. SIX-GUNS 829.
Modest speckling to the covers, otherwise a clean and sound copy in the original printed dust jacket which has a large section missing at the top all around - with loss of the word "With" in the title. Strong ink inscription "with best wishes of the author, J.B. Gillett, Jan. 28, 1929."Condition
