- Lot Description
8.94 in. triangular blade, 13.875 in. overall. Blued blade, hilt and guard with 8 pyramid-shaped projections on the outside of the knuckle guard, including the pommel cap. Face of guard is marked in three lines: US / L.F. & C. / 1917. Walnut grip. Iron mounted leather scabbard marked JEWELL 1918. This is the less common, earlier production LF&C knife with an additional projection on the front face of guard, a feature that was eliminated on the majority of the production models. A scarce variant of the 1917 Trench Knife for an advanced fighting knife collection.
Provenance: N. Flayderman and Co., Inc.Very good overall. The blade retains only traces of the original blued finish, mostly at the ricasso, while the hilt and guard retain most of their finish. Peen is undisturbed and the walnut grip is in fine condition, showing only minor dings and mars. Leather scabbard is fine, retaining most of its original green paint, with the mounts having a dark plum brown patina. Original brass pistol belt hanger is present and has a dark, untouched patina.
