27" narrow, slightly curved spear-point blade with 16.5" stopped fuller. 5.25" hilt with pierced, cast brass guard marked USRM in a banner with a forward swept quill depicting a sea serpent. Shagreen wrap with 10 warps of double-twisted wire. Blade etched with nautical motifs including fouled anchors, knots, spars and sails, along with foliate motifs with U.S.R.M in a banner on the reverse. Essentially a Revenue Marine marked version of the then-current issue variant of the M1852 naval officer's sword. The United States Marine Revenue Service was the predecessor to the US Coast Guard, and replaced the earlier US Revenue Cutter Service. Sword retains its original brass-mounted leather scabbard.
