Blue wool broadcloth body with pasteboard internal form as stiffener. 5.5 in. tall. Leather sweat band, brim and chin strap, with brass buckle. Chin strap secured with a pair of cuff sized eagle buttons. Crown capped with glazed leather. Paper label inside the crown is marked size 4 and reads: Horstmann, Bros. & Co / Manufacturers of / Military Goods / Fifth and Cherry Sts. / Philadelphia. Accompanying paperwork notes that the initial contract for the US Pattern 1864 Light Artillery Shako was given to W.C. Dare of Philadelphia, with the 1866 contract given to Horstmann.
SHIPPING. At the request of the buyer, Cowan's will authorize the shipment of purchased items. Shipments usually occur within two weeks after payment has been received.
