- Lot Description
Blue wool broadcloth body with pasteboard internal form as stiffener. 5.5 in. tall. Leather sweat band, brim and chin strap, with brass buckle. Chin strap secured with a pair of cuff sized eagle buttons. Crown capped with glazed leather. Paper label inside the crown is marked size 4 and reads: Horstmann, Bros. & Co / Manufacturers of / Military Goods / Fifth and Cherry Sts. / Philadelphia. Accompanying paperwork notes that the initial contract for the US Pattern 1864 Light Artillery Shako was given to W.C. Dare of Philadelphia, with the 1866 contract given to Horstmann.
Provenance: N. Flayderman and Co., Inc.Good, with some minor fabric loss along the lower portion of the pasteboard body. Stitching remains tight, leather sweat band with crazing and finish loss. Shako remains solid and is in good, displayable condition.Condition
