Lot of 3 New York newspapers reporting on events that captivated the country at the close of the Civil War. Titles include:
New York Times. New York: April 10, 1865. Vol. XIV, Issue No. 4225. 8pp, 15.5 x 21 in. with several bold headlines announcing the end of the Civil War: "Union Victory! Peace! Surrender of General Lee and His Whole Army" and "The Victory. Thanks to God, the Giver of Victory. Honors to Gen. Grant and His Gallant Army."
New York Times. New York: April 15, 1865. Vol. XIV, Issue No. 4230. 8pp, 15.5 x 21 in., with the headline, "Awful Event. President Lincoln Shot by Assassin."
New York Tribune. New York: April 28, 1865. Vol. XXV, Issue No. 7,507. 8pp, 15.5 x 21 in., containing articles concerning John Wilkes Booth's capture. The headline reads, "The Assassination. Booth Found and Shot!...The Dying Words of the Assassin."
Condition
Folds of the papers, the New York Times editions have some brittleness of the margins and some damp stains.
