.550 bore diameter smoothbore, 33" round barrel. With Colt bayonet lug numbered 9114. Barrel marked with VP and US, with Steel marked on the left side of the barrel. The lockplate is marked E. Whitney U.S., and at the rear N. Haven 1851. With brass barrel bands, trigger guard, patchbox and buttplate. With inspector's cartouche marked opposite the lockplate. The barrel is also marked with the initials S.K. Walnut stock with brass tipped ramrod. The buttplate is marked U.S. and 9.
The barrel has an even dark patina. The lock and hammer have a dark mottled patina. All brass parts with a bright mustard patina. The stock has a small age crack extending from the bottom of the lock towards the middle of the trigger guard. There is also another crack near the top screw on the sideplate. The bore is in good condition, but could use a cleaning.
SHIPPING. At the request of the buyer, Cowan's will authorize the shipment of purchased items. Shipments usually occur within two weeks after payment has been received. Shipment is generally made via UPS Ground service. Unless buyer gives special instructions, the shipping method shall be at the sole discretion of Cowan's Auctions, Inc..
