- Lot Description
.30-40 Krag, 22" round barrel, S/N 24432. Blued finish, walnut stock. Receiver marked in one line: 1895 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 24432. Crisp cartouche at wrist, dated 1895, Circle-P firing proof behind the trigger guard. Checkered buttplate with trapdoor, cut for oiler which is not present. A very early example of the "Variant" Model 1896 carbine, prior to official adoption the following year. Correct "C" marked carbine sight and barrel band, thin wrist and sling bar with ring.
Very good, retaining traces of the blued finish with a smooth brown patina on the barrel and furniture. Receiver retains the majority of what appears to be an arsenal refinished blue. Fine bore and mechanics, crisp cartouches. Stock with usual dings, mars and handling marks.Condition
