- Lot Description
.45 ACP, 5" barrel, S/N 57168 (mfg. ca 1913). Blued finish, checkered wood grips. Left side of frame with US Property mark, right side of slide marked MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY with left side marked with 2-line patent mark, 2-line Colt address and Rampant Colt logo. Correct WGP (Maj. Walter G. Penfield) inspection above magazine release behind trigger. Early production 1913 US military 1911 pistol, partially upgraded to 1911A1. Has the 1911A1 arched and checkered mainspring housing and longer grip safety tang. Retains the early long, uncheckered trigger. Barrel blued with breech polished bright and single "S" mark forward of barrel lug, internally inspected with an "H" and an "R" on the plate next to the ejector, with what appears to be an "L" forward of the feed ramp and in the lower recess of the frame. Brass brazing compound inside frame at muzzle to secure front sight blade. Replacement grips. Includes one faded and oxidized two-tone magazine marked COLT / 45 AUTO on the baseplate, without a lanyard ring.
**Requires C&R or FFLVery good to fine. Retains some of what appears to be the original Colt bright blue factory finish on the frame with some minor dulling, fading and loss, along with some lightly scattered surface oxidation. The slide may be a very high quality refinish from the period of rebuilding during the 1920s. Mechanically functional, good bore. Replaced grips are very good.Condition
