- Lot Description
U.S. Model 1892/1896 Springfield Krag Rifle
.30-40 Krag caliber, 30" barrel, S/N 14241 . Blued finish, walnut stock. Standard Model 1892 receiver markings dated 1894. Stock with only very weak traces of cartouche at wrist but with a clear [circle]-P proof behind triggerguard. Mushroom-shaped cocking knob, 1896 pattern rear sight, stacking and sling swivels, trapdoor in butt for cleaning rods and oiler, which are missing. A classic example of a M1892 Krag rifle upgraded to the M1896 specifications with the cleaning rod hole filled in the stock, the addition of the M1896 upper barrel band and the new 1896 pattern rear sight.
Good. Retains no finish on the metal with some moderately oxidized mottled discoloration with some freckled pinpricking. Markings clear in metal, much weaker in wood. Mechanically functional, good bore with some frosting and lightly oxidized pinpricking. Stock sanded with added oil finish showing numerous bumps, dings and minor mars.Condition
