.45-70 caliber, 32.625" round barrel, S/N 154582. Blued and color case hardened finish, walnut stock. Breech block marked U.S. / MODEL /1873; barrel with typical V / P / {eagle head} and P proof marks. Script SWP / 1881 cartouche opposite lock with weak {circle}-P behind triggerguard. "R" marked 1879 pattern rear sight, sling swivels, stacking swivel. Butt trap with 1879 pattern tool and headless case extractor. Retains correct triangular-to-round combination bayonet and cleaning rod. Only 1,001 of these experimental "Rod Bayonet" Trapdoor rifles were produce ca 1881 and this is a very nice example.
