- Lot Description
.45-70, 28.75" barrel retained by two barrel bands, S/N 1594. Blued and casehardened finish, walnut stock. Standard Winchester and Hotchkiss marks on receiver, correct US Navy inspection marks at breech, no cartouche present. Long range rear sight, front sight/bayonet lug. Retains upper swivel and stacking swivel, lower swivel missing. Incorrect cleaning rod. Includes US M-1873 bayonet and scabbard. Only 1,474 of these scarce 1st Model Hotchkiss rifles were delivered to the Navy c1879.
Good. Retains only traces of finish on the receiver and barrel, with the balance an oxidized brownish gray patina with some scattered pitting. Mechanically functional, good bore with pitting. Stock with several tight grain cracks around the receiver and wrist area, forend restored from the lower band forward. Bayonet and scabbard good.Condition
