- Lot Description
.50 Gov't., 36.5625" round barrel, no S/N. Bright finish, walnut stock secured by three barrel bands. Breech block marked with eagle head over 1866; additional eagle head at rear of receiver. Springfield lock dated 1864 at tail. Long range rear sight, front sight/bayonet lug, sling swivels. One of 25,000 US M-1863/64 rifle muskets altered to breech loading cartridge rifles by the "2nd Allin Conversion" method, circa 1866.
Very good. Metal retains some original bright polish with scattered oxidation and staining, and some lightly scattered pinpricking. butttplate somewhat crusty. Wood crisp with nicks and dings and a fine cartouche on the flat. Mechanically functional, good bore. A much better than average 2nd Allin that would clean up very nicely.Condition
