- Lot Description
.58RF, 31.25" barrel secured by two barrel bands, bright finish, walnut stock, blacked breech block. Breech loading cartridge alteration using the Miller patent to a Trenton contract US M-1861 rifle musket, shortened to "rifle" configuration. Original Trenton lock markings, dated 1864, Miller patent markings on breech block. Reproduction rear sight. Retains sling swivels and shortened ramrod (cleaning rod), threaded at the end. Approximately 2,000 of these alterations were produced by Meriden Mfg. Co. ca 1865-1867.
Very good. Barrel with a slightly dulled patina, fine bore, mechanically functional. Crisp stock with some dings and mars. A very nice example of a Miller conversion.Condition
