- Lot Description
32.5" single-edged blade with 22" median fuller. Brass guard with wire-wrapped shagreen grip. Steel scabbard with brass mounts. Blade adorned with "U.S.," American eagle, along with floral and martial themes. Right ricasso marked "US, J.H., 1861." in three lines, with manufacturers name above. Left ricasso marked "Made by AMES MFG CO., CHICOPEE MASS." in three lines on a scroll. Guard adorned with "U.S." and floral themes. Left of scabbard upper band marked "AMES MFG. CO., CHICOPEE, MASS" in three lines.
Good condition. Blade has a gunmetal gray patina with light pitting near tip. Marks and stamps are readable. Guard has a dull luster with light verdigris forming around chappe. Scabbard has a plumb patina with some dents on tip.Condition
