- Lot Description
.45-70, 26" barrel, no S/N. Blued finish, engraved lock, receiver and furniture, walnut stock with checkered wrist and engraved white metal nose cap. High Arch breech block marked MODEL / 1873 / [eagle head] / [crossed arrows] / US. Barrel with correct V/P/[eagle head] proof marks. Correct 1873 "R" marked rear sight, correctly re-calibrated for the 26" barrel, folding globe front sight, correct adjustable tang peep sight. Reproduction wooden ramrod with brass tip. A scarce and authentic Springfield Officer's rifle, produced c1876-1877.
Good. Metal retains traces of blue, mixed with an oxidized bluish-gray patina and some scattered discoloration. Some light surface roughness and flecks of surface corrosion are present as well. Mechanically functional. Bore fair to good with visible rifling, and scattered pitting. Stock about fair. Sanded and refinished, with no checkering on the forend and weak checkering at the wrist. Numerous bumps, dings and mars. Some chips of wood are missing at the buttplate tang. Overall a salty and well used 1875 Officer's Model, that has decent metal and that is worthy of a better stock. This is a chance to own an authentic Officer's Model at a very reasonable price.Condition
