- Lot Description
.69 caliber, 42" barrel secured by three barrel bands, bright finish, walnut stock. Original flintlock marked with the American Eagle / US / T French forward of the hammer and Canton / 1813 to the rear. Depressed oval proof on barrel is not legible. Breech marked "US to MS", and the counterpane is stamped MS as well, indicating that the musket was transferred from the US Ordnance Department to the state of Massachusetts under the Militia Act of 1808. A faint cartouche is present on the flat as well. Includes an incorrect ramrod that is short, and a reproduction wooden tompion. A representative War of 1812 era US musket.
Good. Metal with a mottled gray patina and evenly pitted. Lock original flint with replaced top jaw and screw. Mechanically functional, fair bore. Forend restored from the middle band forward, upper band and spring replaced. Balance of stock with numerous bumps, dings and abrasions.Condition
