Lot Description

(Anonymous). DEFENDERS AND OFFENDERS. New York: D. Buchner and Company, (1888). First Edition. 7 by 9 inches in the original decorated cloth covers. Includes 210 "mugshots -" the first ten representing "New York's Finest," followed by 200 chromolithograph portraits of a wide range of criminals including approximately 25 women and several members of Western outlaw gangs. Accompanying the portraits on the facing pages are brief biographies. The book was apparently offered by the Buchner Tobacco Company in exchange for "cigarette cards." ADAMS SIX-GUNS, 578.

Condition

Contents clean and complete; the cloth covers are worn and rubbed; front hinge with slight exposure but binding still sound.
