American, 1895. A wooden cane with an L-shaped handle, decorated with carved inscriptions recounting elements of Thomas Jefferson's biography, including his dying words I resign my spirit to God, My daughter to my country and indicating that the cane was cut near Jefferson's Tomb, Monticello VA; lg. 35.5 in.
