- Lot Description
American, 19th century. A hand-colored, large folio lithograph housed in a wood frame subtitled "Emigrants Crossing the Plains". Signed l.r.; titled and subtitled l.c.; 17.5 x 25.25 (image size); 18.5 x 25.5 in. (sight); 19.25 x 26.5 in. (full sheet size).
Condition
Note: the sheet was trimmed, plate marks are not visible.
Fair condition: two major and few other minor breaks into plate, a few abrasions and scratches, half-circle paper loss to left margin, one fold line in lower margin, tape marks to reverse along edges, 4 mended tears (1.5 to 5 in. long) with old tape visible on reverse, one water damage spot towards center upper edge, uneven edges due to trimming. Gum arabic residue.Margin (space between image and trim) measurements: top margin = 0.5 in.; right margin = between 0.25 and 0.5 in.; bottom margin = 1.25 to 1.5 in.; left margin = 0.25 in.
