Boston: F. Trifet. 2 Volumes, each 8vo, brown cloth, each cover decorated and lettered in gilt, all edges are gilt; Volume I (Nos. 1 - XII, 1867-1868, 92pp) and Volume 2 (1868-1869, 112pp.). The second volume is not laid out like a periodical, as the first is, but rather seems to be a continuous printed volume. The pair of volumes primarily focus on the topics of American and foreign stamps, with a smaller number of references to numismatics.
A very fine run of this scarce, early journal devoted to stamp collecting, coin collecting and other similar pursuits (i.e., watermarks and paper, lettering styles, envelopes, and even shell money). In the second volume, the editors note that when readers asked why there wasn't more numismatic information, they would respond that there were already other publications out there, and that was enough. But apparently, they were wrong. There was still a demand for more numismatic coverage, so they were increasing the content in this publication. Clearly an important early journal devoted to growing interests.
Volume I has been trimmed before binding and therefore has narrower margins compared to Volume 2; thus, Volume 1 is a slightly smaller volume.
