A needlework sampler with five alphabet and numeral lines, followed by the text Jesus permit thy gracious name to stand, / As the first efforts of an infant's hand. / And while her fingers on the canvas move, / Engage her tender heart to seek thy love., all over flowers and fruit baskets, signed Emma Day Aged / 12 Years 1856. Housed in a double-sided frame; 11.25 x 12.25 in. (sight).
Emma Day was born in 1844 in Rhea County, Tennessee. She was the eldest daughter of John Day and Rachel Newman. In 1878, Day married Young L.B. Abernathy. She died in 1932 in Hamilton County, Tennessee. This lot includes a folder of detailed genealogical information about Emma Day.
