- Lot Description
Photographic enlargement, 15.5 x 19.5 in., framed, 19.5 x 22.5 in. Uncredited. Ca late 19th century.
Striking portrait of a shirtless Englishman posing with arms crossed, proudly displaying his tattooed chest decorated with spread-winged griffins suspended over shoulder-length portraits of Queen Victoria, her eldest son Edward VII and his wife Alexandra of Denmark, who would go on to reign as King and Queen of the United Kingdom from 1901-1910. Additional designs, including flags and portraits of unknown subjects are tattooed on his arms.
Condition
Wear to portrait, including some creasing, short tears along margins, with one horizontal crease through bottom portion of enlargement. Some slight surface loss along left edge, near center. Plus slight loss to top and bottom left corners. Some scattered smudges. Taped to larger board.
A few stains and dents.
