- Lot Description
Cloth-bound "Illuminated Photographic Album," produced by Leavitt & Allen, New York, 4 x 5.25 in., containing 25 CDVs, of which 8 are credited to Saint Paul, Minnesota photographers Upton and Whitney. The album features exterior photographs of areas surrounding St. Paul, MN, including at least 3 views of St. Anthony Falls, one showing the "Suspension Bridge over the Mississippi," credited to Whitney, as well as a view of the Winslow House, a luxury hotel opened on the hill, overlooking the falls, "From Upton's Collection of Minnesota Views," as imprinted on verso. Accompanied by ca 1860 Whitney Gallery cartes of "Fort Snelling and the Valley of the Minnesota," and a studio portrait of "U-Se-Do-Ha, A Sioux Belle." An outdoor view of a cluster of tepees with Upton's blindstamp lower left is also included. Additionally, the album contains several portraits of children, with 3 views credited to Carson City, NV photographers, J.K. Sutterley (1) and Ludlow & Davidson (2).
Overall very fine condition, with some light toning to cartes. Light corner and edge wear to mounts. Wear to album cover, including loss of spine, and some staining.Condition
