Weekly Star Gazette. Trenton, NJ: November 6, 1884. Vol. XCVII, No. 45. 8pp, 15.5 x 22 in.
Featuring front page article erroneously naming James Blaine the winner of the 1884 Presidential election, not Grover Cleveland.
The election of 1884 was the closest in history until 2000. Mired in political scandal, Blaine lost the election due to having a child born out of wedlock and not disassociating himself from a supporter's comments that Democrats were the party of "rum, Romanism, and rebellion." He lost the election by losing the state of New York, thus ending a 28-year winning streak for the Republican Party.
Toning of the pages and a portion of the top right margin missing.
