.45-70 caliber, 22" barrel, S/N 15037. Barrel marked VP over the eagle head motif over P. Top of breechblock marked Model 1873 over the eagle head motif and U.S. Lockplate marked with the eagle motif, and stamped with spuriously marked John O'Leary U.P.R.R. The walnut stock has an inspector's cartouche oval behind the saddle bar and ring, and a firing proof behind the trigger guard. The cleaning rod compartment is empty.
The bore is in very good to excellent condition. The barrel and lockplate have an even, plum patina. The breechblock has a dark grey patina with very small traces of case coloring. The stock has some nicks and dings, along with an age crack near the upper tang of the buttplate.
SHIPPING. At the request of the buyer, Cowan's will authorize the shipment of purchased items. Shipments usually occur within two weeks after payment has been received. Shipment is generally made via UPS Ground service. Unless buyer gives special instructions, the shipping method shall be at the sole discretion of Cowan's Auctions, Inc..
