- Lot Description
.69 caliber, 42" barrel, browned finish, walnut stock. Lock and barrel tang both dated 1830. A drum bolster conversion of a US M-1816 musket, enhanced and decorated by Blunt & Syms for presentation or militia use. Engraved floral scroll motifs on breech, triggerguard, sideplate and buttplate. Wrist checkered. German silver inlays include a large spread-winged American Eagle on the obverse butt, a scroll shaped presentation plaque on the reverse (blank), three stars on each side of the forend, 10 on the butt/comb/toe line and one forward of the triggerguard. Small nail decorations present as well. Rear sling swivel an old replacement, front swivel original as is the button head ramrod. Engraved marks on top of barrel illegible. A very nice example of a presentation grade commercially sold conversion musket.
Good to very good. Barrel with a mostly thick brown patina and some scattered oxidation and pitting. Mechanically functional, dark, pitted bore. Inlays in good condition, some engraving weak. Stock solid with worn checkering, a chip out at the tang, chips and cracks on the counterpane, and some grain cracking in the forend.Condition
