Southern Sugar Chest in Original Finish
American (Kentucky or Tennessee), 19th century. A sugar chest having a cherry top, and mixed wood case, retaining its original finish, the hinged lid having a molded edge and folding back to reveal an open interior with spaces for two dividers, the dovetailed case with a stepped base and rising on reeded legs with turned feet; ht. 31.75, wd. 33.5, dp. 19.25 in.
Provenance: Formerly the property of Helen Glore Bogard (1938-2011) whose grandmother, Hester Bryant Glore (1878-1956), was a descendent of the Bryants who settled and founded Bryantsville, formerly Smith's Station, in Garrard County Kentucky.
One backboard repaired. Missing interior dividers. Hinges probably replaced.
