Manuscript song, 1p, 8 x 6 in. Fascinating patriotic song containing lyrics praising King George III intentionally crossed out. The first two verses read:
Let all the Sons of Liberty
On high their standards raise
And by them let them live or die
And thus advance their Praise
They that their country's rights assert(?)
And them with zeal defend
Whether their fortune smile or frown
Shall meet a glorious end
On the side of the sheet, the author has crossed out "Long Live King George a King of Peace." Additional lyrics on the reverse of the page, praising King George, are crossed out in pencil. No further records regarding the title, date, or author of the lyrics have been located.
Early American patriotic music is extremely rare.
Toning of the paper and several folds as well as light soiling.
