- Lot Description
.577 Snider, 27.125" barrel, bright finish, walnut stock. Snider breechloading cartridge alteration of a US M-1861 Rifle Musket with a Springfield marked lock, dated 1863. Shortened to "2-band" rifle configuration, with US M-1870 style rear sight and front sight/bayonet lug relocated on shortened barrel. The two primary users of Snider altered US muskets were Turkey and Egypt during the late 1860s. Turkish guns are normally marked with the Turkish crest, but this one is not. Colt altered several thousand obsolete US rifle muskets to Snider breechloaders for the Egyptian government and this may be one of those guns. With sling swivels and a Martini-style cleaning rod.
Very good. Metal a dull gray with scattered surface oxidation. Mechanically functional, good bore. Stock with scattered bumps and dings.Condition
