One book of photographs, plus nearly 500 postcards and 22 loose photos.
Snapshots from the Balkans, 115th Brigade R.F.A., 1915-1919, J.C.H. Obl. 8vo, 3/4 leather, gilt spine lettering, a.e.g., watered endpapers, 101 unnumbered pages each with printed photo and captioned in pencil below. At the onset of WWI, the 115th Royal Field Artillery was sent to France as part of the 1st Corps, 1st Division, 25th (XXV) Brigade, along with the 113th and 114th RFA. The Corps was formed in August 1914 commanded by Lieut. Gen. Sir Douglas Haig. They immediately headed for France and were involved in the Battle of Mons by August 23.
Photograph album, approx. 10.25 x 14.5 in., flexible cloth covers, gilt lettering on front, tied with string. Black "construction paper" leaves. 261 postcards, unused, in corner tabs. There are 76 color postcards, 10 large (5.25 x 7 in.) postcards, over 100 sepia cards, 60 black-&-white cards, two printed in blue ink and 7 in green ink. The first three-quarters of the collection focuses on Brussels and the countryside. Most are also published in Brussels. The last quarter has later images, mostly through the mid-1930s.
Scrapbook, approx. 7.25 x 11.75 in. With pages with three sleeves on each side to fit postcards. Brown leatherette with gilt border on front. Contains 33 sepia and black-&-white postcards and 7 color postcards. Most unused.
15 used postcards in sleeves for standard notebook (4 slots per page), plus 20 loose cards, many used, but the unused cards are clearly part of a set (about half are various arrangements of pansies). All signed "Will."
Lot includes a group of used postcards, 43 black-&-white and sepia, 9 color, 1 plain card with no image and 7 letters. These are all in French (although a couple are so hastily written they could be any language). Many seem to be between a doctor at the American Hospital in Paris and a doctor in New York. Not all are dated (and postmarks not complete), but those with dates seem to be between 1915 and 1922.
Another group of 39 postcards (35 black-&-white, 4 color) seems to be printed mostly in Czechoslovakia and possibly Russia. Many are used, and seems to be mostly in Czech. Some are addressed to Moravia.
Group of 81 photographs, identified in the negatives, approx. 3.25 x 4.5 in., with just a couple of smaller ones.
The last group of photographs is 22 images of Red Cross vehicles and their drivers. Approx. 2.75 x 4 in., with a couple trimmed slightly smaller. Most are in duplicate.
