- Lot Description
Six-volume set of Keystone World War through the Stereoscope, 300 card set in three double-book form cases. Arched-top photos on curved cards. Book that originally accompanied these sets is not present.
If anything positive came out of the first World War, it was plenty of images for stereoviews. In the early decades of the 20th century, Underwood & Underwood and Keystone View Company were in fierce competition. Beginning about 1915, Keystone began buying out smaller companies, and eventually purchasing Underwood & Underwood in 1921. The companies produced many different sized sets of war views during the war, often purchasing views from European companies, since there were few American photographers on the continent before the U.S. joined the Allied cause.
