Sheraton Tall Case Clock
American, 19th century. A Sheraton tall case clock in cherry and mahogany. The case with a scrolled, broken arch pediment and three urn-shaped finials above a glazed door and four spindles, opening to a painted, Arabic numeral dial with flowers in the corners, the arched top having a moon phase disc with a nautical scene and a lakeside cottage, the waist with a cockbeaded and crossbanded door flanked by chamfered stiles, the whole resting on a molded, box base with crossbanding and turned feet, interior of the case and waist door inscribed Mr.(?) A.M. Perham from owen / ...June 1 1866 / June 26-77 May 17-82 / G. Lauas(?) Jan-12-1885 / Frank Gallinith(?) Saturday...6th 1913. /Frank Thilburn(?), 1935 / T.A. Alban. 11/7.-1955. / Polk III-1969.; ht. 99, wd. 20, dp. 11 in.
The A.M. Perham inscription on the waist door was most likely done by Alfred M. Perham who worked as a clock repairer in Owen County, Kentucky from 1860 to 1878. The presence of his signature suggests that this clock spent part of its life in Kentucky, as it seems unlikely that Perham would have traveled to Ohio to repair it.
A couple of small chips to corners of pediment molding. Some other minor chips, nicks, and veneer cracks scattered throughout. Front panel of box base with an age split and a couple of surface repairs. Pendulum, weights, and winding crank present. Pendulum rod slightly bent.
Cowan's does not guarantee the working condition of this clock.
