Sheraton Sugar Chest in Cherry
American (Kentucky or Tennessee), 19th century. A Sheraton sugar chest in cherry with poplar secondary, having a hinged lid with a molded edge, above a conforming case with a three-compartment interior, all rising on cylindrical, reeded legs with ring-turned cuffs; ht. 29.5, wd. 36.5, dp. 15.75 in.
Surface wear as would be expected with age and use, including some stains to top. Age splits to case. Repaired split to back edge of lid where it connects to right hinge. Interior dividers present. Tops of dividers built up approximately 3/4 inch with later strips of wood. Bottom of case with a couple of later wooden strips near the edges. Missing interior lock mechanism.
