Sharps Model 1849 Rifle
.44 caliber, 30.5" octagonal barrel, S/N 95. Marked on the top of barrel is marked A.S. Nippes/ Phila PA. On the top of the breech is marked C. Sharps Patent 1848. Twelve-groove rifling. Rear sight with long base and fancy finial. Front sight is notched with blade missing. Brass cover over the priming mechanism. Plain brass two-piece patchbox. Brass buttplate and nosecap. Wood ramrod. Forearm held by wedge to barrel. Walnut stock and forearm.

Barrel is grey and speckled with black staining and pitting. Frame has sharp and crisp lines with gunmetal grey and pitting mixing in. All markings are dim, but readable. Brass with nice patina. Stock and forearm with some nicks and dings. A great example of a very rare first-type Sharps rifle.
