Lot of 3, featuring quarter plate tintype of Civil War Sergeant Stephen D. Skidmore, as identified on accompanying paper label, seated in a studio setting, his cheeks lightly tinted pink and jacket insignia and buttons highlighted in gold. Housed in full, pressed paper case. Accompanied by 2 cap boxes, one ink identified inside to Skidmore.
Bridgeport, CT resident Stephen D. Skidmore enlisted as a private in April 1861 and mustered into Co. K, 3rd Connecticut Infantry in May for three months' service. In August 1862, Skidmore mustered into Co. A, 14th CT Infantry, remaining with the regiment through the end of the war. He saw a great deal of action, beginning with 1st Bull Run (while serving with the 3rd CT); Antietam, WIA on September 17, 1862; Fredericksburg; Chancellorsville; Gettysburg, where his regiment sustained heavy losses; Wilderness; Spotsylvania; POW at Dinwiddie Court House, October 28, 1864, and paroled on February 17, 1865; with final action at Farmville, VA before mustering out on May 31, 1865.

At the request of the buyer, Cowan's will authorize the shipment of purchased items. Shipments usually occur within two weeks after payment has been received. Shipment is generally made via UPS Ground service. Unless buyer gives special instructions, the shipping method shall be at the sole discretion of Cowan's Auctions, Inc..
