- Lot Description
Printed circular, 8 x 5 in., single sheet, presumably intended to be folded to form 6pp. Woonspe Wankantu. The Normal Training School, Dakota Mission, American Board, Santee Agency, Neb. For the Year Ending March 31, 1877. English with some Dakota translations. Contains the names of instructors, including the Reverend Alfred L. Riggs, a Congregational missionary and founder of the school, the names and number of pupils and an outline of their coursework.
When the Santee Sioux were exiled from their home in Minnesota following the Sioux uprising of 1862, the Normal Training School was established in 1870 with the primary purpose of providing education and training to members of the tribe.
A rarely encountered circular in pristine condition.
Condition
Overall excellent. Slight smudge in "W" in "Woonspe" on p. 1.
Large vase cracked.
